NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION – ADVANCE MY CAREER

Here are reasons you may want to consider making a move in January.

  1. In January, budgets are often still being solidified. Details of what specific roles the company needs and the talent for those positions leaves a lot of room for flexibility. This is an opportune time for you to see “what’s out there”, and network with industry decision makers. Given this flexibility you have a greater chance at having a role tailored to you and getting a higher salary for it.
  2. Landing a new position in January often means that you would receive full bonus and vacation since most of the time this is prorated based on your start date.
  3. January is a time when companies experience budget cuts, which may mean layoffs. Being prepared with other opportunities can mean you don’t get caught jobless in the New Year.
  4. New Year’s resolutions should include your career. Ask yourself if you’re where you want to be in your career. Are you still growing? Are you being paid market value for your role? What could you do better or more of to reach your goal? Have an honest moment of reflection about where you are and where you want to be. You may come to the conclusion that you may need to look for something new.
